ATEXCON 2025: Driving Asia’s Leadership In The Global Textile Industry

The 12th edition of the Asian Textile Conference (ATEXCON 2025), organized by the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI), successfully concluded at the Courtyard by Marriott, Mumbai. With Gherzi as the official knowledge partner, the event brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and experts to discuss Asia’s growing influence in the global textile and apparel sector.
Asia: The Powerhouse of Global Textiles
Asia dominates the textile and apparel landscape, accounting for 63% of global cotton production and 90% of the world’s man-made fiber (MMF) output. The region also holds around 90% of global spinning capacity and 85% of knitting capacity, solidifying its position as the largest manufacturing hub in the world.
In his keynote address, CITI Chairman Shri Rakesh Mehra emphasized the need to increase value addition in exports, stating, “Exporting high-value products with greater unit value realization (UVR) should be a priority for all Asian countries.”
Key Industry Initiatives Unveiled
ATEXCON 2025 saw the release of two significant industry documents:
“5-Point Agenda for the Indian T&A Industry (2025-26)” – A joint initiative by leading textile associations outlining policy interventions needed to achieve India’s $100 billion textile export target by 2030.
“Code of Conduct for Prevention of Child Labour and Forced Labour” – A voluntary industry-led initiative endorsed by CITI, AEPC, ITTA, SIMA, TEA, CMAI, MATEXCIL, PDEXCIL, and TEXPROCIL, reinforcing ethical labor practices.
