Avient And ReForm Engineering Drive Thermoplastic Composite Innovation In Construction

Avient Corporation, a global leader in materials solutions, has partnered with ReForm Engineering Composites LLC to advance the use of continuous fibre reinforced thermoplastic (CFRTP) composites in construction.
ReForm, which specializes in engineering and manufacturing CFRTP solutions, uses its patented Continuous Forming Machine (CFM) to produce complex, curved and multi-geometry thermoplastic profiles, surpassing traditional straight-profile pultrusion methods. Leveraging CFRTP’s lightweight and corrosion-resistant properties, ReForm is developing innovative solutions for concrete infrastructure applications.
One such success is The PolyDowel, a CFRTP dowel for flat slab concrete construction, made from Avient’s Polystrand continuous fiberglass reinforced thermoplastic laminates. Avient provides precision-cut laminates to ensure a seamless manufacturing process and reduce material waste. The thermoplastic dowels offer superior durability and corrosion resistance compared to traditional steel alternatives.
The first demonstrator installation of The PolyDowel was completed in early 2025 at a high-traffic entertainment infrastructure project and has since been installed at the Mattamy Homes Heart of Tradition plaza in Port St. Lucie, Florida, home to the world’s tallest heart sculpture.
“Construction projects often face cost barriers when adopting composites,” said Cody Sheltra, CEO of ReForm. “Through our collaboration with Avient, we’ve delivered a cost-effective solution that brings advanced composite performance to concrete reinforcement, accelerating market adoption.”
Brad Schmidt, General Manager of Advanced Composites at Avient, added, “ReForm’s innovative manufacturing process and material expertise are redefining concrete reinforcement. We’re proud to contribute to this next-generation solution.”
