Bangladesh Adds 12 More LEED Certified Garment Units In 2024

In the first five months of ongoing year, 12 more Bangladesh garment factories bagged the LEED certification, bringing the number of Bangladeshi LEED certified apparel factories to 218.

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a globally recognised green building rating system that emphasises environmental responsibility and energy efficiency.

“This recent accomplishment brings Bangladesh’s total to 218 LEED-certified green factories,” said Mohiuddin Rubel, Director of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).

He further added that this achievement underscores the country’s commitment to green initiatives within the garment sector.

BGMEA informed that of the 218 certified factories, 84 have achieved the highest platinum rating, 120 have bagged gold, 10 have earned silver, and 4 are green certified.

Of the 12 garment factories which have earned LEED certification in 2024, eight have bagged the platinum rating, while the other four were awarded gold.

According to BGMEA, 9 of the top 10 globally and 18 of the top 20 LEED-certified clothing factories are located in the South Asian country.
