Barmag Unveils POY 2.0 With Energy-Efficient, Partially Automated Spinning Concept

Barmag has introduced POY 2.0, a completely redesigned spinning concept that elevates the production of partially oriented yarn (POY) in both technological performance and economic efficiency. The innovation was presented to a select group of industry experts at ITMA Asia + CITME, where it generated strong interest, with several global yarn manufacturers expressing intent to explore pilot installations.

Developed through a comprehensive analysis of the entire spinning-to-winding process chain, POY 2.0 focuses on optimized core components, improved energy efficiency and simplified operational workflows.

A key upgrade is the next-generation DIO spin pack, engineered for enhanced rheological performance and more homogeneous filament quality. Its compact design reduces filter sand consumption by approximately one-third and lowers component weight by over 30 percent, easing handling while cutting material usage. The redesigned spinning beam further contributes to energy savings of up to 10 percent by minimizing surface area.

The EvoQuench 2.0 radial quenching unit continues to ensure uniform filament cooling, while offering easier adjustment of convergence length. Improved accessibility and simplified controls shorten setup times and reduce waste during product changes.

At the winding stage, the new WINGS POY 2.0 winder introduces automatic string-up functionality for the first time—addressing a longstanding industry demand. The feature ensures consistently short string-up times, lowers waste rates and reduces manpower requirements at the take-up level, a significant advantage amid ongoing skilled labor shortages.

Additional enhancements include active quick returns for faster product-specific adjustments, improved bobbin build without overthrown yarn ends, and enhanced shielding of chucks and bobbins to prevent fluff formation and stabilize the yarn path. A new yarn end fixation system eliminates loose ends, preventing sensor errors in downstream automated logistics. The optimized XPT housing, with extended rotor stroke, increases flexibility and parking time during doffing, further improving line stability and productivity.

POY 2.0 is fully integrated into the atmos.io digital ecosystem, enabling end-to-end production monitoring from polymer to finished yarn. Through dedicated apps, operators can track quality parameters in real time, intervene quickly when required and reduce waste. The result is a more stable, connected and margin-enhancing POY production platform aligned with the demands of modern spinning operations.
