Burkina Faso Explores Cotton In Tirupur

A delegation of 14 entrepreneurs from Burkina Faso visited the Tiruppur Exporters’ Association (TEA), facilitated by Gherzi Consulting, New Delhi, to seek guidance on converting their locally grown cotton into garments and adding value to their textile industry.

The delegation was received by the Association’s President, K.M. Subramanian, General Secretary N. Thirukkumaran, Joint Secretary, Kumar Duraiswamy and Executive Committee Members J. Ravindranath, L. Pradeep Kumar, and C. Nataraj, along with Vikash Sharma from Gherzi Consulting.

The leader of the delegation Dieudonne, highlighted that only 2% of Burkina Faso’s cotton is currently used domestically for value addition, with the remaining 98% being exported. He expressed their intent to establish knitted garment manufacturing facilities in Burkina Faso to enhance the value of their cotton production.

During the interaction, TEA President K. M. Subramanian elaborated on the history of knitwear production and export in Tirupur. He provided a detailed explanation of the various stages in knitwear production, the financial and human resources required and the necessary infrastructure for setting up such manufacturing units.

Prior to the meeting, the delegates visited various factories in the apparel value chain, offering insights into the production processes and operational details.
