Carrefour Returns To India with 50,000-sq-ft Greater Noida Flagship

French retail major Carrefour has made its return to India with the opening of a 50,000-plus sq. ft. flagship store at H&S Mall, Boulevard Walk, Greater Noida West, in partnership with Dubai-based Apparel Group.

The launch marks Carrefour’s re-entry into the Indian consumer retail market and the beginning of an expansion strategy that combines the retailer’s international expertise with Apparel Group’s local market knowledge and retail infrastructure. The company plans to build a multi-format and omnichannel retail network in India, with the partners targeting around 50 stores over the next three years.

The Greater Noida store offers more than 15,000 stock-keeping units (SKUs), covering fresh produce, groceries, bakery products, household essentials and personal care. The assortment combines locally sourced products with international offerings, giving consumers a wider range of products under one roof.

The flagship store is positioned as the starting point for Carrefour’s broader expansion in India. Apparel Group plans to develop the business through a combination of physical stores, modern supply-chain capabilities, technology and an integrated omnichannel ecosystem.

The partners are also looking at different retail formats as the network expands, including compact hypermarkets, supermarkets, convenience and gourmet formats. Delhi-NCR is expected to remain an initial focus area for the rollout.

Nilesh Ved, Chairman of APPCORP Holding, Owner of Apparel Group and Founder of KORA Properties, said Carrefour’s entry into India reflects the companies’ confidence in the country’s long-term retail potential.

“Carrefour’s entry into India represents more than the arrival of an iconic retailer. It reflects our conviction in India’s extraordinary potential and our ambition to help shape the next chapter of its retail landscape,” Ved said.

He added that the partnership combines Carrefour’s international retail expertise with Apparel Group’s understanding of the Indian market to create a platform designed for scale and long-term growth.

Patrick Lasfargues, Executive Director – International Partnership, Carrefour, said the launch marked a significant milestone for the company as it begins its retail journey in India.

“We see India as one of the world’s most dynamic consumer markets, underpinned by strong economic fundamentals, a rapidly evolving retail landscape and immense long-term potential,” Lasfargues said.

He said the partnership with Apparel Group would provide a platform for sustainable growth by combining Carrefour’s global expertise with local market knowledge.

The India strategy also places emphasis on omnichannel retail, with physical stores expected to play a role in servicing online and quick-commerce demand. Apparel Group plans to leverage the store network and associated infrastructure as part of a broader digital retail strategy.

Carrefour’s return comes more than a decade after it exited India in 2014. The retailer had previously operated cash-and-carry wholesale stores in the country before withdrawing from the market. Its latest entry follows a different model, with Apparel Group serving as its franchise partner for the Indian market.

India’s expanding organised retail sector, rising consumer aspirations and rapid urbanisation have created significant opportunities for international retailers. Against this backdrop, Carrefour and Apparel Group are seeking to establish a retail network that combines global product expertise with locally relevant merchandise and formats.

The Greater Noida flagship, therefore, represents the first major step in Carrefour’s latest India strategy, with the partners aiming to expand beyond the National Capital Region and build a nationwide retail presence over the coming years.
