CIEL Unveils Brewed Protein Fibres Made Yarn

Mauritius based and CIEL owned Ferney Spinning Mills and Floreal Knitwear launched Otenya, a new yarn collection made from Spiber’s Brewed Protein fibres.

This launch marks an important milestone as Ferney Spinning Mills becomes the first global spinning mill to introduce yarn collections incorporating Brewed Protein fibres.

Brewed Protein fibres are a new class of lab-grown, plant-based, circular protein materials manufactured through a proprietary fermentation process utilising plant-derived sugars as a primary raw feedstock for microbes.

“Otenya products will be particularly innovative and promising as a sustainable alternative to cashmere, ultrafine, and superfine micron merino fibres for use in woolen spun yarns,” Max Li Ying, Design & Product Executive at Floreal said.

The inaugural Otenya collections feature a harmonious blend of Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) certified ultrafine merino wool and Brewed Protein fibres, showcasing the synergy between Spiber and Ferney Spinning Mills.
