CITI Takes Centre Stage At ILO Conclave With Special Session

The Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) took center stage at the International Labour Organisation (ILO) conclave with a special session on “Sectoral Development Approaches and Industry Linkages in Garment and Textile Industry.”

The session provided a platform for industry leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders to engage in insightful discussions aimed at fostering growth and collaboration within the dynamic realm of garments and textiles.

The session covered various aspects including; Sustainable Practices; Skill Development; Technology Integration and Government Initiatives.

The session highlighted the need for collaboration between industry stakeholders and government bodies to formulate policies that support sustainable development and foster industry linkages.

The session curated by CITI brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and experts to deliberate on strategies for fostering sustainable development in the garment and textile industry.

The conclave aimed to address challenges, share best practices, and explore innovative approaches to promote sustainable enterprises for local development.

While moderating the session, Ms. Chandrima Chatterjee, Secretary General, CITI expressed that this session has been planned to encourage dialogue and collaboration among key stakeholders.

“Our focus is on sectoral development approaches and establishing robust industry linkages to drive positive change,” Ms Chatterjee said.

Ms. Shubra, Trade Advisor, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India who chaired the session said that the textile and apparel industry is a vital contributor to India’s economy.

“Its sustainable growth is crucial as MSME sector contributes immensely to the textile and garment sector. The government is working on BIS certifications and making certain standards compulsory,” she added.

She said the focus is more on sustainable textiles because that is catching the attention of the buyers worldwide and so the Textiles Ministry has set up a dedicated project on circularity and sustainability.
