Cotton Cultivation Up In Gujarat, But Down Across India

Reports indicate that cotton cultivation in Gujarat has increased by 5 percent to 26.79 lakh hectares in the 2023-24 cotton season.

However, there are apprehensions of Indian cotton production declining in the new cotton season as cotton sowing has reduced all over India.

“Cotton cultivation across India decreased 1.81 percent over the previous season to 122.56 lakh hectares in the 2023-24 season,” media reports stated.

Data from the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) informed that cotton arrivals in the ongoing cotton season (2022-23), have crossed 318 lakh bales (each of 170 kg)

Punjab cotton arrivals in the 2022-23 season have been reported at 8.7 lakh quintals till date, plunging from 28.89 lakh quintals for the entire previous season.
