Cotton Yarn Prices Surge In Tirupur

Cotton yarn prices in Tiruppur have continued their upward trend, with rates for knitwear production increasing by Rs 7 per kg over the weekend, adding to a series of hikes witnessed over the past few months.

The latest increase follows multiple revisions this year, including Rs 7 per kg hikes in late February and mid-March, followed by sharper increases of Rs 10 per kg each in early and mid-April. With the most recent revision, cotton yarn prices have risen cumulatively by up to Rs 41 per kg since the beginning of the year.

For instance, the price of 20s combed yarn has moved up from Rs 285 to 292 per kg, reflecting the sustained cost escalation across the value chain.

Industry stakeholders attribute the price surge to ongoing geopolitical tensions, which have disrupted supply dynamics and pushed up raw material costs. Domestic cotton prices remain elevated, while international rates continue to trade at a premium, further tightening the market.

The increase has raised concerns among exporters and manufacturers in Tiruppur, one of India’s largest knitwear hubs, as higher yarn costs directly impact production expenses and export competitiveness.

With cotton prices showing no immediate signs of easing and global uncertainties persisting, the industry expects continued pressure on yarn prices in the near term.
