Dow Unveils First Bio-Circular Product For Carpet Tile Backing
Dow has launched its first bio-circular product for the flooring industry, expanding its ENGAGE REN Polyolefin Elastomers (POE) portfolio. This new offering, designed for carpet tile backing, combines high performance with sustainability by using bio-circular feedstocks such as used cooking oil.
The bio-circular product maintains the dimensional stability and adhesion support required for carpet tiles while helping customers achieve their sustainability goals. It is ISCC PLUS-certified, allowing for traceability in supply chains and supporting Dow’s broader vision of carbon neutrality and circularity for plastics.
Joanna Giovanoli, Senior Marketing Manager for Dow’s Packaging and Specialty Plastics business, stated: “This innovation represents a crucial step toward expanding our circularity offerings into new markets. By supporting our flooring customers with bio-circular feedstock options that maintain high performance, we can give waste a new life, potentially reducing carbon footprints and reliance on fossil feedstocks. This is how we are moving Dow and our customers closer to shared sustainability goals.”
Dow’s commitment to bio-circular materials is central to its “Transform the Waste” target, aiming to commercialize 3 million metric tonnes of circular and renewable solutions by 2030. Rosalyn Kent, Associate TS&D Scientist for Dow’s Packaging and Specialty Plastics business, added: “We are committed to developing innovative products that meet the sustainability needs of our customers and help drive toward a circular economy. To do this, we continue to explore alternative feedstock options that reduce production impacts and invest in new partnerships to advance bio-circular raw materials.”
