EDANA Calls For Caution On EU Countermeasures To US Tariffs

EDANA, the global association representing the nonwovens industry, has expressed concerns over the European Commission’s potential countermeasures against recently imposed US tariffs on EU steel, aluminium, and related products.
While supporting efforts to protect EU industries, EDANA warns that retaliatory measures could have unintended consequences for the nonwovens sector, which relies on key raw materials like fluff pulp. The US supplies over 80% of the EU’s imported fluff pulp, a critical component in hygiene products such as baby diapers, menstrual products, and incontinence care. Any disruption could lead to higher production costs, increased prices for consumers, and supply chain instability.
EDANA urges the EU to prioritize negotiations and avoid escalating trade tensions that could impact both economies. The association highlights the need for careful evaluation of the countermeasures’ effects, particularly on vulnerable consumers, including young families, the elderly, and hospital patients.
EDANA remains engaged in discussions and calls for a balanced approach to safeguard the industry’s competitiveness while maintaining stability in global trade relations.
