Government Approves Establishment Of 7 PM MITRA Parks to Boost Textile Sector
The Government has approved the establishment of 7 PM Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) Parks on Greenfield/Brownfield sites, including a Greenfield project in Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu. These parks will feature world-class infrastructure, including plug-and-play facilities, with a total outlay of Rs. 4,445 crore over seven years up to 2027-28. Each park is expected to generate 1 lakh direct and 2 lakh indirect jobs upon completion.
To implement the PM MITRA Scheme in Virudhunagar, a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) named ‘PM Mega Integrated Textile Regions and Apparel Park, Tamil Nadu Limited’ has been incorporated, with the Government of Tamil Nadu holding a 51% stake and the Government of India holding the remaining 49%. Environmental clearance and layout approval from the Directorate of Town and Country Planning have been obtained, and the provision of water and power supply to the park gate is in progress. Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth Rs. 1200 crore for investment in the park have been signed so far.
In addition to the PM MITRA Scheme, the Ministry is also implementing the Scheme for Integrated Textile Park (SITP) to enhance investments, generate employment opportunities, and boost exports in the textile sector. Although the SITP was in effect until 31.03.2021, it has now been subsumed under the Textile Cluster Development Scheme (TCDS), with an allocation of Rs. 568.15 crore to complete ongoing projects.
