Govt Approves Technical Textile Projects Worth Rs 103 Crores
The Indian Textiles Ministry approved 11 project proposals related to technical textiles amounting to around Rs 103 crore.
The Union Minister for Textiles Piyush Goyal, cleared the proposals while chairing the 8th Meeting of the Mission Steering Group (MSG) of the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM).
These project proposals include nine R&D projects, one project on machine development and one project on equipment development.
The projects cover different application areas of technical textiles with two projects each of Protech, Meditech, Mobiltech, Smart Textiles and one project each in Buildtech and Sustainable Textiles.
One of the projects focuses on development of high-strength carbon fibre for strategic applications to make India self-reliant in the field of technical textiles
Amongst the approved projects, research projects were led by institutes and research bodies including CSIR-NAL, ATIRA, NITRA, IIT Delhi, ICT- Mumbai, NIT-Jalandhar, Colorjet India Ltd. among others.
Goyal emphasised on the need for enhancement of collaborative efforts among the government and industry to enhance indigenous development of technical textiles products.
He also reviewed implementation of Quality Control Orders issued by the Ministry of Textiles, patents guidelines of R&D, outreach activities and events under NTTM, amongst others.
