H1 Turkish Textile Exports Experience 13.6% Drop

In the first half of 2023, exports of Turkish textiles and raw materials experienced a 22.1 percent year on year, drop to US $5.9 billion.

The 27 member EU continued to remain the biggest destination for Turkish textile exports, but where they declined by 22.5 percent compared to the same period in 2022 and amounted to $2.4 billion.

The second biggest destination for exports of textile and raw materials are the African countries, where they decreased by 18.9 percent from a year ago period to $622 million.

In terms of quantity, overall textile and raw materials exports in the January-June 2023 period decreased by 9.2 percent at 1.3 million tons.

In this period, exports to EU countries fell 20 percent year on year to 483,000 tons, while those to the African continent descended 11 percent to 140,000 tons.

In the first six months of current year, exports of technical textiles moved down 6.5 percent compared to the comparable period of 2022 to $1.1 billion.

Of overall technical textiles shipments, nonwovens accounted for 28.8 percent, which too shrank by 18.2 percent year on year to $325 million in the period under review.
