INDA Hails House Approval Of WIPPES Act For ‘Do Not Flush’ Labeling

INDA, the Association of the Nonwoven Fabrics Industry, has applauded the U.S. House of Representatives for passing the bipartisan Wastewater Infrastructure Pollution Prevention and Environmental Safety (WIPPES) Act (H.R. 2269), which mandates national “Do Not Flush” labeling standards for non-flushable wipes.

The legislation, aimed at curbing sewer system clogs caused by improper disposal of wipes, builds on years of collaboration between industry and wastewater stakeholders. Similar laws are already in place in seven states. The WIPPES Act ensures uniform federal labeling requirements based on those models.

“This is a major step forward,” said Wes Fisher, INDA’s Director of Government Affairs. “With the Senate version already advancing, we’re closer than ever to establishing a nationwide standard. We thank our legislative sponsors, industry partners and INDA members for their continued support.”

The House bill was led by Representatives Lisa McClain (R-MI) and Kevin Mullin (D-CA), while the Senate version (S. 1092) is backed by Senators Jeff Merkley (D-OR) and Susan Collins (R-ME).
