Indian Silk Exporters Explore New Markets In Kenya

A delegation from the Indian Silk Export Promotion Council (ISEPC) visited Nairobi from October 6–7, 2025, as part of efforts to expand India’s silk export footprint in East Africa and strengthen bilateral trade ties with Kenya.
The visit featured the Mega Silk Exhibition-cum-Buyer Seller Meet, inaugurated by H.E. Dr. Adarsh Swaika, High Commissioner of India to Kenya, at Hyatt Place, Westlands. The two-day event brought together 18 leading Indian silk and textile companies, presenting a wide range of products including fabrics, garments, scarves, stoles and home furnishings.
The exhibition served as a strategic B2B platform for direct engagement between Indian exporters and Kenyan importers, distributors and retailers. It aimed to facilitate new trade partnerships, boost market access for Indian silk and tap into Kenya’s growing demand for premium textile products.
According to ISEPC, the initiative aligns with India’s broader goal of deepening economic cooperation with Africa and expanding its non-traditional export markets. The textile sector remains a key component of India–Kenya trade with India exporting textile products worth US$ 194.57 million to Kenya in the last financial year, out of total exports of US$ 3.13 billion.
Industry observers note that India’s strong manufacturing capabilities and Kenya’s evolving fashion and apparel ecosystem present significant opportunities for investment and value-added collaboration in the textile value chain.
