India’s 2022-23 Cotton Exports Nearly 50% Of CCPC Forecast

In the just completed 2022-23 cotton season which ended in September, Indian cotton exports are estimated to have declined to 15.50 lakh bales of 170 kg each, the Cotton Association of India (CAI) said.

This is down by nearly 50 percent or 30 lakh bales forecast by the Committee on Cotton Production and Consumption (CCPC) and also 50,000 bales less than estimated earlier by CAI.

CAI also added that Indian cotton imports too were sluggish at 12.50 lakh bales in the 2022-23 season compared to the estimate of 14 lakh bales made for the season previously.

Cotton demand has been impacted by the global slowdown in garment demand and cotton exports have been affected, mainly to China, which is the biggest global user of cotton as well as largest global textile and garment exporter.
