Italian Textile Machinery Delegation To Exhibit At Expotextil Peru 2024
Expotextil, the premier trade fair for the textile and clothing industry in Peru, is set to take place from November 7 to 10, 2024. This highly anticipated event will welcome a strong delegation of Italian textile machinery manufacturers, highlighting the growing ties between the two industries.
Within the Italian pavilion, organized by the Italian Trade Agency and ACIMIT (the Association of Italian Textile Machinery Manufacturers), 14 Italian companies will participate, including 11 ACIMIT members, Color Service, Danti, Dettin, MS Printing Solutions, Ferraro, Flainox, Ima, Salvadè, Santoni, Ugolini and Willy.
The textile and clothing sector plays a pivotal role in Peru’s economy. The country is the world’s leading producer of alpaca fibers, accounting for over 80% of global production. Peru also boasts a well-established cotton industry, particularly concentrated in the northern regions.
In 2023, Peru exported $1.87 billion worth of textile and clothing products, reflecting a robust 19.6% growth compared to the previous year.
Speaking on Italy’s participation at the event, Marco Salvadè, President of ACIMIT, emphasized the significance of Italian technology for Peru’s textile industry
“In a context where technological renewal is essential for Peruvian textiles, the Italian presence at Expotextil is strategic. The local industry must modernize its machinery and enhance the quality of production to remain competitive. Italian technology offers solutions for efficient and resource-saving manufacturing,” Salvadè stated.
Peru has a history of benefitting from Italian textile machinery, positioning itself as the second-largest market in South America for Italy’s manufacturers. In 2023, Italian textile machinery exports to Peru amounted to approximately €18 million. In the first half of 2024, Italian exports to the region reached around €8 million, underscoring the sustained demand for high-quality machinery.
