JD Sports Completes €520 Million Acquisition Of Courir
JD Sports Fashion Plc has finalized its acquisition of Groupe Courir S.A.S for €520 million, following conditional clearance from the European Commission on October 22, 2024, and the fulfillment of all required conditions.
Régis Schultz, CEO of JD Sports Fashion Plc, described the acquisition as a significant step in the company’s European Complementary Concepts strategy. He stated, “This acquisition broadens the JD Group’s customer reach by adding a more female, fashion-conscious and older customer base, complementing our core customers.”
Courir is a leading sneaker retailer in France, Europe’s largest sneaker market. With 323 stores across France, Spain, Belgium, Netherlands, Portugal and Luxembourg, Courir also operates 36 franchise stores in North West Africa, Middle East and French overseas territories. Additionally, it runs three stores under the “Naked” brand, an elevated concept for women’s sneakers.
As part of the European Commission’s conditional clearance, JD Sports will divest 15 Courir stores in France and six in Portugal to Snipes by Q1 FY26. Until the divestment is complete, these stores will continue operating under the Courir banner.
The acquisition was funded through a mix of existing cash and JD’s revolving credit facility. Courir reported revenues of €725.8 million and a profit before interest and tax of €50.3 million in 2023.
This deal reinforces JD Sports’ position as a leading player in Europe’s sneaker market and sets the stage for further growth under Courir’s experienced management team.
