Justice For The Innovator: Uster Technologies Wins Patent Infringement Case In China

Uster Technologies has secured a decisive legal victory in China, confirming its commitment to innovation and intellectual property protection. The Supreme People’s Court of the PRC has ruled in favor of Uster, confirming that a local competitor unlawfully infringed on its patent by copying the yarn feeder mechanism of the Uster Tester 6.
With a legacy of pioneering textile quality control solutions since the 1940s, Uster holds more than 250 active patents globally. These patents safeguard its substantial investments in R&D and uphold fair market practices by preventing unauthorized imitation.
The case centered around a Chinese manufacturer that released a yarn evenness tester using a feeder copied from Uster’s patented design. After a First Instance Court ruling in Uster’s favor, the decision was appealed and ultimately upheld by the Supreme Court. The competitor has been ordered to cease infringement and compensate Uster.
Dr. Paul Pliska, Intellectual Property Manager at Uster, remarked, “This ruling reinforces our trust in China’s robust IP protection system, which ensures fair treatment for rights holders, regardless of origin. It’s a win not only for us, but also for our customers who rely on genuine innovation.”
This is Uster’s second legal victory against the same competitor. A prior lawsuit concerning the Uster Tester 6 console design, which received the 2016 Red Dot Award, also concluded in Uster’s favor.
Uster repeated its long-term commitment to China, where its Suzhou Technology Center continues to drive innovation for both domestic and global markets. The company sees the ruling as a milestone in supporting China’s growing emphasis on quality, technology, and fair competition in the textile industry.
