Mimaki Will Unveil Technology To Reuse Printed Polyester Textile

Digital Textile Printer manufacturer Mimaki will introduce ‘Neo-Chromato Process’, a technology to reuse the printed polyester textile by discolouring dye-sublimation ink.

Mimaki will be the first to introduce this technology to promote sustainability in the textile industry by introducing cyclical textile technology.

According to Mimaki, the name ‘Neo-Chromato Process’ is derived from a phenomenon in which sublimation dyes, which are not supposed to fall off, seep out of fibres and are transferred to other materials like chromatography.

“Currently, printed polyester textile is mainly used for short-term events like banners, hanging screens, backlit signs and tablecloths, garments and sportswear, most of which are incinerated after use.

“Some portions are recycled, however the recycling rate is only 15 percent and an enormous amount of energy is used to recycle them,” Mimaki said.

“In the ‘Neo-Chromato Process’, a discolouring technology for dye sublimation inks, the absorbent paper that has absorbed the ink and the decoloring solvents can be disposed of as burnable waste,” the company added.

Mimaki which called the process sustainable informed that it is working to commercialise practical conditions and solutions using the ‘Neo-Chromato Process’ to verify the potential of this technology.
