Mission Steering Group Approves Rs 21 Crore for 19 Technical Textile Projects

The Mission Steering Group, chaired by the Union Minister of Textiles, has sanctioned 19 groundbreaking research initiatives valued at approximately Rs 21 crores under the National Technical Textiles Mission. These projects span vital areas such as composites, geotextiles, smart textiles, and advanced machinery, and were approved during the 9th Mission Steering Group meeting.

The selected projects, put forward by prestigious research institutions including the Indian Institute of Technology, National Institute of Technology, and the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research, aim to propel India’s technical textiles sector to new heights.

In addition to project approvals, the Union Minister assessed ongoing efforts in research and development, market expansion, export promotion, and educational advancements within the Mission. He reviewed 27 applications from 16 public and 11 private institutions focused on introducing technical textiles coursework, upgrading laboratory infrastructure, and enhancing training programs for educators across various technical textiles applications. The Minister also evaluated internship and skill development initiatives spearheaded by the Ministry.

The meeting was attended by high-profile officials including the Member of NITI Aayog, the Principal Scientific Adviser, the Chairman of ISRO, and senior representatives from the Department of Science & Technology, Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Heavy Industries, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Railway Board, Ministry of Water Resources, Ministry of Defence, alongside eminent industry leaders and association members.
