Pakistan’s Textile Exports Up 5.37% In July- August 2024

Textile exports from Pakistan grew by 5.37% during the first two months (July and August) of the current financial year (2024-25), reaching US$ 2.92 billion compared to US$ 2.77 billion in the same period last year, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

Key contributors to this growth include cotton cloth exports, which rose by 7.23% to US$ 322.65 million, up from US$ 300.91 million. Knitwear exports increased by 7.15%, reaching US$ 820.59 million, compared to US$ 765.80 million in the previous year.

Other textile segments also performed well, with bedwear exports growing by 7.61% to US$ 504.75 million, towels up by 6.87% to US$ 170.77 million, and tents, canvas, and tarpaulin exports rising by 3.49% to US$ 19.58 million.

Significant growth was also seen in ready-made garments, which surged by 17.85% to US$ 658.50 million, and synthetic textiles, which increased by 11.15% to $61.24 million. Made-up articles (excluding towels and bedwear) rose by 5.10% to US$ 119.39 million, while other textile materials saw a 7.42% rise to US$ 121.45 million.

However, some segments faced declines. Cotton yarn exports dropped sharply by 45.21%, from US$ 201.84 million to US$ 110.59 million, while raw cotton exports fell to zero from US$ 3.07 million. Yarn exports (excluding cotton yarn) also saw a 10.54% decrease, from US$ 6.65 million to US$ 5.95 million.

On a year-on-year basis, textile exports grew by 12.99% in August 2024, reaching US$ 1.64 billion compared to US$ 1.45 billion in August 2023. Month-on-month, exports surged by 29.36% in August 2024, compared to US$ 1.27 billion in July 2024.
