Piyush Goyal Strengthens Economic Ties With Switzerland And Sweden

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal concluded a successful two-day visit to Switzerland (June 9–10) and commenced his official engagements in Sweden today.

In Switzerland, the focus was on advancing bilateral economic ties and operationalising the India–EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) signed earlier this year. Goyal held high-level meetings with Swiss leaders, including Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin and State Secretary Helene Budliger Artieda, to discuss regulatory cooperation, investment facilitation, innovation, and skill development.

He addressed the 18th Swissmem Industry Day in Zurich, urging Swiss companies, particularly in biotech, precision engineering, and emerging tech to invest in India. He highlighted India’s growing market, strong manufacturing base, and the new trade architecture offered by TEPA. Referring to it as a “Trust and Efficiency Partnership Agreement,” he invited Swiss SMEs and deep-tech firms to co-create solutions for the global market.

A key highlight was the prompt resolution of a land issue raised by Swiss firm Endress+Hauser during the visit, demonstrating India’s commitment to investor-friendly governance.

Goyal also met with leaders from top Swiss companies exploring expansion in India across R&D, localisation, and MSME linkages. The visit saw strong interest in sectors such as clean tech, healthcare innovation, and industrial automation. A delegation from Indian industry bodies—CII, FICCI, and ASSOCHAM accompanied the Minister, reflecting a unified push for economic diplomacy.

In Sweden, Goyal is co-chairing the 21st Indo-Swedish Joint Commission for Economic, Industrial and Scientific Cooperation with Minister Benjamin Dousa. He will also meet senior government officials and Swedish business leaders from companies including Ericsson, Volvo, IKEA, Sandvik, and SAAB.

Key discussions will focus on advanced manufacturing, green technologies, innovation, and strengthening India–Sweden trade and investment ties. Goyal will also engage with the Indian diaspora and address the media.
