Govt Extends Safety Order Deadline To Sept 2026

The Ministry of Heavy Industries has issued an amendment to the Machinery and Electrical Equipment Safety (Omnibus Technical Regulation) Order, 2024, extending the enforcement timeline for key provisions of the regulation.
As per the Machinery and Electrical Equipment Safety (Omnibus Technical Regulation) Amendment Order, 2025, the original compliance date has been revised. The updated order states that the provisions shall now come into force from September 1, 2026, instead of one year from the date of publication of the original order.
The amendment also clarifies the application scope of the order:
- It will apply to machines and electrical equipment listed in the First Schedule from September 1, 2026.
- For assemblies, sub-assemblies, and components listed in the same schedule, a separate enforcement date will be notified by the Central Government via the Official Gazette.
The amendment has been made under Sections 16, 17, and 25 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016, in public interest and in consultation with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
