Tra Ly Tackles Labor Shortage With Trützschler’s Smart Automation

Vietnam’s spinning industry is facing an acute shortage of skilled operators. As industrialization accelerates, competition for young talent is increasing, and many workers are choosing roles in other sectors. For Tra Ly Hung Yen Spinning, a company known for its consistent quality, this labor crunch posed a significant challenge. To mitigate its impact, Tra Ly turned to its longstanding technology partner, Trützschler.
Traditionally, spinning mills require many qualified and experienced employees to ensure consistent yarn quality. Skilled operators must make precise adjustments throughout the production process, especially when raw material quality fluctuates—a common scenario in today’s market. In quality-focused countries like Vietnam, this dependency on labor is a major concern.
Tra Ly Hung Yen, a family-owned business, primarily manufactures carded and combed cotton yarns (Ne 20 to Ne 40) using both standard and compact spinning. With a production capacity of 60 tons per day, half of its output is exported to markets such as China, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. Facing a growing labor gap, the company sought automation-based solutions from Trützschler.

Traly operates numerous Trützschler carding machines. Recently, the TC 19i completed Tra Ly’s portfolio.
Automation and Innovation: A Strategic Shift
Trützschler addressed the challenge by offering highly automated, self-optimizing machinery that ensures consistent quality with minimal manual intervention.
“Innovations from Trützschler offer efficient handling that frees up time for our employees,” says Do Thi Lan Phuong, Director of Tra Ly. “These machines enable higher productivity, improved sliver evenness, and more energy-efficient manufacturing. Working with Trützschler is always a pleasure thanks to their expertise, positive energy, and solution-oriented approach.”

Trützschler’s technical experts are helping Tra Ly to improve its production processes and settings.
Key Technologies Installed at Tra Ly
- T-SCAN TS-T5 – Foreign Part Separation
Equipped with advanced sensors and image-processing technology, this system detects and removes foreign parts like stems and leaf fragments while minimizing fiber loss. It’s also easy to clean and maintain during ongoing production. - TC 19i with T-GO – Intelligent Carding
Featuring the industry’s only proven automatic carding gap optimizer, the TC 19i ensures real-time self-adjustments to maintain optimal carding gaps—even with fluctuating raw materials or production conditions. - TD 10 Draw Frame – Autolevelling Precision
AUTO DRAFT and OPTI SET functions allow this draw frame to automatically optimize break draft and drafting points, supporting consistent yarn quality across different fiber types. - TCO 21XL – High-Productivity Comber
With 12 heads instead of the conventional eight, this machine boosts productivity by approximately 50% while maintaining top-tier quality. COUNT MONITORING ensures continuous quality control by automatically tracking sliver count deviations.
Local Expertise and Digital Solutions
Trützschler backs its technology with a strong local presence in Vietnam. A dedicated team of technical experts, a well-stocked spare parts inventory, and repair facilities ensure rapid support and minimal downtime. The team also advises Tra Ly on process improvements and digital upgrades.
Recently, Tra Ly implemented My Mill, Trützschler’s real-time mill monitoring system. This digital solution enables remote audits, on-site guidance, training, and troubleshooting based on live production data.
Looking ahead, both companies are enthusiastic about their continued collaboration. As Do Thi Lan Phuong affirms, “Working with Trützschler is always a great experience thanks to their deep expertise, can-do attitude, and positive energy.”
