Primark Expands Presence In Portugal With € 40 Mln Investment, 500 New Jobs
Primark, the international fashion retailer, is set to expand in Portugal with an investment exceeding €40 million. This initiative includes opening four new stores in Montijo, Guimaraes, Viseu, and Covilhã, alongside extending its Colombo store in Lisbon. The expansion aims to increase Primark’s footprint by over 30%, totaling 14 stores across the country and creating more than 500 new jobs.
Nelson Ribeiro, Head of Sales at Primark Portugal, emphasized the brand’s strong 15-year presence in Portugal and its loyal customer base. The new stores will feature a refreshed look and offer a wide range of fashion, beauty, and homeware products at affordable prices. They will also introduce self-service checkouts, enhancing convenience for shoppers.
The expansion highlights Primark’s commitment to local communities, contributing over €1 million to Portuguese charities like Liga Portuguesa Contra o Cancro and Ajuda de Berço. The retailer’s growth in Portugal is part of a broader strategy to reach 530 stores globally by 2026, following recent market entries such as Budapest, Hungary.
Primark encourages local job creation with opportunities across retail roles, offering extensive training and development programs. Recruitment for the Montijo store is currently underway, with additional openings expected in the coming months.
