The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) has appointed Prof Frederick Ma Si-hang as the new Chairman of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC). His two-year term will begin on 1 June 2025 and run until 31 May 2027.

Currently the Non-Executive Chairman of FWD Group and a member of the Chief Executive’s Council of Advisers, Prof Ma previously served as Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development and Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury. His extensive experience in public service and business makes him well-suited to lead the HKTDC in promoting Hong Kong’s global trade and economic strengths.

Outgoing Chairman Dr Peter K N Lam expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve over the past six years, highlighting the challenges of Hong Kong’s post-pandemic recovery. “Trade and tourism are crucial to Hong Kong’s economy. I will continue to contribute in my new position and work with the HKTDC to promote Hong Kong,” he said.

Dr Lam welcomed Prof Ma’s appointment, expressing confidence in his leadership. “I am pleased the HKSAR Government has appointed Prof Ma as the next Chairman. He will lead the HKTDC to new heights, creating opportunities for Hong Kong businesses and driving high-quality economic development.”

HKTDC Executive Director Margaret Fong praised Prof Ma’s leadership and experience in both the public and private sectors. “Under his guidance, the HKTDC will reinforce Hong Kong’s advantages and help businesses seize national and global opportunities.”
