Shahi Exports Scales Fibre52 Technology For Lower-Impact Cotton Processing

Shahi Exports, one of India’s largest apparel manufacturers and exporters, has partnered with Innovo Fiber LLC, USA, to scale its Fibre52 cotton pretreatment technology across integrated textile operations. The deployment at Shahi’s knits processing facility marks the largest industrial-scale implementation of the technology globally, signalling a major advancement in lower-impact cotton processing.
The collaboration combines Fibre52’s patented biochemistry platform with Shahi’s large-scale manufacturing capabilities to drive more resource-efficient cotton processing within industrial production environments.
Cotton pretreatment remains one of the most resource-intensive stages in textile manufacturing. Fibre52 offers a drop-in, low-temperature system that uses ZDHC MRSL v3.1 and OEKO-TEX-approved chemistries. The process preserves the natural wax and softness of cotton fibres while eliminating the need for caustic soda and significantly reducing resource consumption compared to conventional methods.
Since early 2024, Fibre52 has undergone a structured validation at Shahi, progressing through 5 MT, 20 MT, and most recently, 100 MT fabric trials. Results have demonstrated approximately 25% reduction in water consumption and 49% reduction in steam usage versus traditional pretreatment systems.
As part of its scale-up strategy, Shahi plans to transition nearly 25% of its knit processing capacity equivalent to around 3,000 tonnes annually to the Fibre52 system. This move marks a critical shift from controlled trials to full-scale industrial adoption within a vertically integrated manufacturing setup.
Both companies view this collaboration as a long-term innovation platform, focused on expanding applications, deepening integration across product categories, and enabling scalable pathways for more sustainable textile manufacturing.
Laura Thornquist, President of Innovo Fiber, said, “What makes this partnership unique is not just the technology, but the alignment of vision. Shahi and Fibre52 share a commitment to rethinking cotton processing at scale. When innovation and manufacturing discipline come together, meaningful transformation becomes possible.”
Anant Ahuja, Director – ESG & Sustainability at Shahi Exports, added, “This collaboration highlights the power of partnership. Fibre52 brought a new approach, while we focused on integrating it into our production environment. The journey from validation to measurable outcomes demonstrates how sustainability and performance can align at an industrial scale.”
