Shein, Lufthansa Cargo Ink MoU To Advance Sustainable Air Freight

Global fashion and lifestyle e-retailer Shein and Lufthansa Cargo have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to accelerate the adoption of sustainable solutions in air transportation.
Under the agreement, the partners will finalize within six months a programme to scale up the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for Shein’s cargo shipments. Lufthansa Cargo will provide “Proof of Sustainability” certificates documenting emission reductions, verified against international standards.
The collaboration builds on Lufthansa Cargo’s expertise in SAF adoption and Shein’s broader decarbonization strategy, which also includes logistics optimization, fleet efficiency and exploration of low-carbon technologies.
“Through this partnership, we aim to pilot and gradually expand the use of SAF where feasible, while continuing to explore additional ways to reduce the carbon footprint across our delivery network,” said Ethan Shen, Shein’s General Manager of Global Fulfillment.
Ashwin Bhat, CEO of Lufthansa Cargo, added, “This memorandum demonstrates our commitment to reliable and sustainable logistics solutions. By working together, we are advancing more sustainable global supply chains in line with our purpose: Enabling Global Business.”
Beyond SAF, the MoU also provides for joint initiatives in operational efficiency, environmental data traceability and knowledge exchange. Both companies view the agreement as the foundation for a long-term collaboration to promote lower-carbon air cargo solutions.
