Spinnova Fortifies Global IP Shield For Its Breakthrough Fibre Technology
Spinnova is tightening protection around its unique, chemical-free fibre technology with a rapidly growing global IP portfolio. The company’s mechanical process, which turns wood and waste into textile fibre without dissolving or harmful chemicals, remains unmatched in the industry.
By the end of 2024, Spinnova held 80 granted patents and 30+ pending applications, reflecting a strategy founders Juha and Janne prioritised from day one. The strong patent wall has so far ensured no competing technologies have emerged.
Spinnova also safeguards key know-how as trade secrets, supporting its licensing model and ensuring freedom to operate. “Protecting our technology is essential to delivering sustainable, scalable materials,” says Johanna Valkama, General Counsel.
To strengthen its global reach, Spinnova partners with IP specialist Berggren, whose team works closely with product developers to identify and protect new inventions. “It has been a privilege to support Spinnova from its earliest ideas to its leadership today,” says Mika Laajalahti, VP at Berggren.
