Sritex Declared Bankrupt, 10,665 Workers Laid Off

A total of 10,665 workers from textile giant Sritex have been terminated between January and February 26, 2025, following a court ruling declaring the company bankrupt. The layoffs affected employees from four companies under the Sritex Group: PT Sritex Sukoharjo, PT Bitratex Semarang, PT Sinar Panja Jaya Semarang and PT Primayuda Boyolali.

Slamet Kaswanto, coordinator of the Sritex Group Workers’ Union, confirmed the number. “Yes, that’s roughly the latest figure,” he stated in a message to Tempo on February 28, 2025. When asked about the situation, he noted that he was attending a creditors’ meeting at the Semarang District Court.

Sritex Group’s General Manager of HRD, Haryo Ngadiyono, also confirmed the ongoing court proceedings. “We are awaiting the outcome of the hearing at the Semarang District Court,” he said, adding that the curator, debtor and creditors were all present in the bankruptcy case discussions.

At PT Sritex Sukoharjo, February 28 marked the last working day, as operations are set to shut down from March 1.

Andreas Sugiyono, Secretary of the All-Indonesian Workers’ Union (SPSI) Sritex Sukoharjo, emphasized that workers expect the company and the curator to fulfill their severance pay and other entitlements. “We have been told to wait for the next hearing outcome in Semarang,” he said.

A tense negotiation took place on Thursday night between the workers’ union and the company management regarding employee rights. However, Andreas confirmed that an agreement was reached. “The company and the curator have agreed to fulfill workers’ entitlements, including remaining leave and wages for the final working days, in case of automatic termination,” he stated.

At PT Sritex Sukoharjo, approximately 8,800 employees were affected by the layoffs. Widada, Chairperson of SPSI PT Sritex Sukoharjo, confirmed that termination forms were distributed on February 26, with most employees having already completed them.

“If they have filled out the form, it means they have officially been laid off,” he said.
