Surat Textile Markets Extend Sunday Operations Ahead Of Navratri, Diwali
Textile markets in Surat will remain open on Sundays during the upcoming festive period as traders prepare for increased demand, higher order volumes and a rise in buyer visits ahead of Navratri and Diwali.
The decision was taken by the Federation of Surat Trade and Textile Associations (FOSTTA) following requests from traders and other market participants for additional working days during the peak business season. The extended schedule is intended to provide greater flexibility for traders to process pending orders, handle fresh bookings and coordinate dispatches.
Surat’s textile manufacturing and trading network has been witnessing increased movement of finished fabrics as wholesalers and retailers across India step up procurement for the festive season. Manufacturing units in and around the city are dispatching substantial volumes of textiles, while markets are receiving a continuous flow of parcels for onward transportation.
“Keeping the markets open will give traders enough time to transport material. Ahead of the festive season traders from other cities can visit and check products on Sundays as well,” said Dinesh Katariya, Secretary, FOSTTA.
The additional trading day is expected to ease pressure on the city’s textile supply chain, particularly for traders dealing with large order volumes and transport operators handling increased consignments. It will also provide outstation buyers with an additional opportunity to visit the markets, inspect fabrics and finalise purchases outside the regular weekday schedule.
The rise in textile movement is already being reflected in logistics activity. Around 200 truckloads of textile products were dispatched from Surat on Monday alone, indicating increased procurement and distribution activity ahead of the festive season.
Traders expect the extended market schedule to support faster order execution and improve delivery timelines during the period of heightened demand. The additional working day could also help reduce congestion in the supply chain by allowing manufacturers, traders and transporters more time to process and move consignments.
With Navratri and Diwali approaching, Surat’s textile industry is preparing for sustained trading and dispatch activity. The extended Sunday operations are aimed at keeping the market and distribution network responsive as festive-season orders gather pace.
