Tajikistan Targets US$ 3 Billion Textile Exports With Full Cotton Processing

Tajikistan aims to boost its textile exports tenfold from US$ 300 million to US$ 3 billion by increasing domestic cotton processing and building full-cycle production chains. This vision was outlined by Sherali Kabir, Minister of Industry and New Technologies, during the First International Textile Forum.

Currently, only 30% of the country’s cotton is processed locally, with the rest exported as raw material. Kabir highlighted that with strategic investments and a shift to finished goods production, the US$ 3 billion target is within reach.

This push aligns with Tajikistan’s Fourth National Strategy, which seeks accelerated industrialization and aims to double industrial output in five years. A key focus is on developing integrated clusters from cotton cultivation to finished textile products under the Textile Industry Development Strategy launched two years ago.

The government plans to create over 600,000 jobs and fully process all domestically grown cotton. Kabir emphasized strong government-business collaboration and welcomed foreign investment, noting rising interest from global partners, technology providers, and financial institutions.

The textile sector’s expansion supports the goals of Tajikistan’s National Development Strategy 2030 and the Social Protection Strategy 2040, positioning it as a future hub of industrial innovation.
