Tamil Nadu Gives Consent For Setting Up Mini Textile Parks

The Tamil Nadu government has granted consent to set up six mini textile parks in the state and eight more are awaiting consent.

“Around 100 companies have expressed interest in the scheme. We have given life to the scheme that was dormant since 2015. It will start gaining momentum now,” Tamil Nadu Textile Commissioner M. Vallalar told The Hindu.

The mini textile park scheme offers 50 percent or Rs 2.5 crores subsidy to develop common facilities and can come up on minimum two acres and with just three industrial plants.

The stakeholders should identify land, form a special purpose vehicle, and submit a detailed project report.

“There are eight projects from in and around Madurai and in Coimbatore, the slowdown has affected the textile industry and hence the response is gradually picking up,” he added.

Coimbatore District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati held a meeting with industry representatives recently to explain details of the scheme.

The earlier scheme mandated a minimum of 10 acres and 10 industries to be set up, which has now been reduced to two acres and three industrial units.

The scheme is expected to benefit those particularly in the post-spinning operations, such as weaving or fabric processing or garmenting.

Additionally if the park is set up in backward blocks, the units can avail of capital subsidy from the MSME department.
