Tamil Nadu–Taiwan Summit Spurs New Alliances In Technical Textiles

The Tiruppur Exporters Association (TEA), in partnership with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), hosted a high-level interaction and B2B session with a Taiwanese delegation as part of the Tamil Nadu–Taiwan Technical Textile Partnership Summit. The event focused on unlocking opportunities in technical textiles, particularly in man-made fibers (MMF) and advanced textile technologies.

Welcoming the delegation, A. Sakthivel, Honorary Chairman of TEA, highlighted the strategic importance of global partnerships. He pointed to ongoing Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with the UK and EU, and an upcoming Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) with the USA, noting these developments could significantly enhance India’s textile exports. “If we collaborate, we can compete globally,” Sakthivel emphasized, calling for stronger joint ventures between Taiwan and Tamil Nadu.

Arun Ramasamy, Chairman of TEA’s MMF Sub-Committee, highlighted the summit’s role in industry transformation. “This interaction enables us to build networks with Taiwan and upgrade our capabilities in technical textiles,” he said.

From CII Tamil Nadu, G.R. Gopikumar, Convenor of the Textile Panel, acknowledged Taiwan’s advanced capabilities and their compatibility with Tamil Nadu’s industrial ecosystem. “Taiwan’s strength in technical textiles will add tremendous value to our manufacturing sector,” he noted, crediting the Taiwan Textile Federation (TTF) for spearheading the initiative.

Justin Huang, President of TTF, presented Taiwan’s latest advancements in technical textiles, sharing valuable insights into innovations that could benefit Indian producers and open avenues for cross-border collaboration.

Representatives from the Department of Textiles, Government of Tamil Nadu Sakthi Vijayalakshmi and Ragavan, outlined state initiatives supporting MMF and textile printing, key areas of focus for Tamil Nadu’s textile growth.

Nandha Gopal, Senior Manager at the Guidance Bureau, detailed Tamil Nadu’s investment-friendly ecosystem, including incentives, subsidies, and the Single Window Portal 2.0, designed to simplify approvals and promote ease of doing business.

Mezhiselvan, Vice Chairman of the Business Promotion, Branding & Sustainability Sub-Committee, TEA, praised the collective efforts of stakeholders in strengthening Tamil Nadu’s position in global textile trade.

The summit concluded with a dynamic B2B networking session and product showcase, involving over 30 participants from Tiruppur and Taiwan. The event laid a strong foundation for future joint ventures, investments, and knowledge exchange, marking a new chapter in India–Taiwan textile cooperation.
