Primark Places Orders Worth Rs 2,000 Crore With Tiruppur Exporters

UK headquartered fashion, home décor and beauty products retailer Primark, has orders worth Rs 2,000 crore in the pipeline which it has placed with the Tiruppur textile and garment cluster.

This was revealed by Tiruppur Exporters Association (TEA) after a meeting with an environment social governance team from Primark. TEA added that Primark has been sourcing from Tiruppur since 25 years.

The discussions between TEA and Primark were mainly on the steps taken by the Tirupur textile cluster with regards to environment social governance (ESG) and sustainability.

The Primark team was informed about the installation of wind and solar panels to create a lower carbon footprint and also about the zero liquid discharge (ZLD) plant.

TEA also mentioned about other initiatives like planting of trees, conserving water bodies and also producing apparels made from recycled fabrics.

The association also informed about the proactive steps taken by TEA in resolving migrant labour issues and measures taken to handle the challenges faced by the migrant workforce during the Covid pandemic.
