Türkiye To Host Better Cotton Conference 2024

The Better Cotton Conference 2024 will be held in Türkiye, the seventh-largest cotton producer globally and a hub for the textile industry. The Better Cotton Conference serves as an annual gathering for global cotton stakeholders to collaborate on sustainable solutions.

Taking place on June 26 & 27 at the Hilton Istanbul Bomonti Hotel & Conference Center, the conference will bring together industry leaders in Istanbul, a city bridging Europe and Asia. Attendees will enjoy a networking river cruise on the Bosphorus, highlighting Türkiye’s unique cultural and geographical significance.

With Türkiye’s rich history of cotton cultivation dating back to the 6th century and its thriving textile sector, it is the ideal setting to envision a sustainable future for the industry. Since the first Turkish Better Cotton harvest in 2013, production has soared to over 67,000 tonnes, mainly concentrated in regions like the Aegean, Cukurova and south-eastern Anatolia.

Collaborating with their strategic partner, İyi Pamuk Uygulamaları Derneği (IPUD) – the Good Cotton Practices Association, they aim to bolster Better Cotton supply and demand in Türkiye. Joint efforts have transformed Turkish cotton into a sustainable mainstream commodity, with initiatives such as the ‘Toward Decent Working Conditions in Cotton Farms in Şanlıurfa’ project, supported by seven Better Cotton Member brands in 2017.

At this year’s conference, attendees will hear from Nurcan Talay, IPUD Project Coordinator, about the latest project in Türkiye, the ‘Women and Child-Friendly Mobile Area Project.’ Under the overarching theme of ‘Accelerating Impact,’ sessions will explore tangible ways to invest in the sustainability of the cotton supply chain and improve the livelihoods of cotton farming communities.

Keynote speakers include Tülin Akın, founder of Tabit, Türkiye’s first agricultural social communication and e-commerce system, Lewis Perkins from the Apparel Impact Institute, Aarti Kapoor from Embode, and Dr. Vidhura Ralapanawe from Epic Group. Themes to be explored include Putting People First, Driving Change at Field Level, Understanding Policy & Industry Trends, and Reporting on Data & Traceability.

Attendees are invited to join the Better Cotton Conference 2024 as they work towards a more sustainable future for cotton farming communities worldwide. For more details and registration visit https://bettercottonconference.org/registration
