Unifi And Yarn Producers Launch Yarnproof To Verify Polyester Origin

Unifi, Inc. and polyester filament yarn manufacturers across North and Central America have launched YarnProof™, an initiative that uses a physical tracer to help verify yarn origin throughout the supply chain.
Powered by FibreTrace® technology, YarnProof embeds an invisible, permanent tracer into polyester filament yarn during extrusion. The tracer can be detected using a FibreTrace handheld scanner at different stages, including in yarn, fabric and finished products.
The initiative is designed to support compliance with the yarn-forward requirements of the CAFTA-DR and USMCA trade agreements by providing physical evidence alongside existing documentation and certification systems.
Nick Pence, Senior Director of Material Supply at Under Armour, welcomed the industry’s efforts to improve transparency and provide physical evidence to support sourcing history.
Kim Glas, President and CEO of the National Council of Textile Organizations, said YarnProof would give the region a new tool to substantiate origin claims, while complementing established checks such as document reviews and site visits.
Participating manufacturers include Aquafil O’Mara, CS America, CS Central America, Nan Ya Plastics Corporation America, Premiere Fibers, Sans Americas, Skytex México, Tecnología Textil Avanzada, Textufil, Unifi Manufacturing and United Textiles of America.
Allen Jacoby, President of Technical Textiles at Milliken & Company, said the ability to verify material origin through physical evidence would strengthen transparency and confidence across the supply chain.
