Union County Expands Textile Recycling Program To Cranford

Union County has expanded its textile recycling program to include the Township of Cranford, adding to the existing partnerships with Plainfield, Summit, and Scotch Plains. The initiative, launched in February in collaboration with sustainable clothing recycler Helpsy, aims to reduce clothing and textile waste through convenient local drop-off options.

“Since launching our textile recycling program a few months ago, we have already significantly reduced waste in our county,” said Commissioner Chairwoman Lourdes M. Leon. “Our collaboration with Cranford further expands our network, making it easier and more convenient for residents to participate.”

The Helpsy program allows residents to drop off unwanted clothing, shoes, accessories, and household linens in any condition. Since its inception, the initiative has diverted more than 23,000 pounds of textiles from the waste stream.

The new drop-off site is located at the Cranford Conservation Center, 210 Birchwood Avenue, and operates Wednesdays (9:20 a.m. – 3:20 p.m.), Saturdays (9:20 a.m. – 3:50 p.m.), and Sundays (9:20 a.m. – 3:50 p.m.).

Helpsy, a certified B Corporation and Public Benefit Corporation, promotes reuse and recycling to extend the life of clothing and reduce environmental impact.
