VDMA Textile Machinery Issues Position Paper on EU Sustainability Regulations

In a position paper released, the VDMA Textile Machinery Association addresses the ambitious EU regulations and their national implementation for a sustainable and circular transformation of the textile and clothing industry.
Textile production demands significant resources, including water, energy, and chemicals. “The members of VDMA Textile Machinery support customers worldwide with products that reduce CO2 emissions from the production stage,” explained Verena Thies, Deputy Chairwoman of VDMA Textile Machinery.
The position paper highlights the importance of efficient processes, a circular economy, and binding rules for all market participants. It also reviews the status of textile-to-textile recycling processes and the framework for reprocessing recyclates. VDMA Textile Machinery companies develop technologies for recycling and provide the technical prerequisites for the efficient reuse of textile raw materials, both natural and synthetic.
The Executive Board of VDMA Textile Machinery highlights the need for realistic targets, measurable effects, and minimal bureaucracy in the new EU regulations. Market surveillance is also essential to ensure fair competition.
The VDMA Textile Machinery Association calls for improved conditions in Germany and the EU to foster innovation and competitiveness in textile machinery manufacturing. Key factors include access to low-cost green energy, skilled labor, reduced bureaucracy, shorter approval periods, investment security, and a lower tax burden.
