Vijayamohini Mills Workers Protest, Demand Reopening And Dues

Workers of Vijayamohini Mills, a unit of the National Textile Corporation (NTC), staged a protest on Wednesday by blocking the entry of the company management into the premises. The mill has remained shut for the past five years since the COVID-19 outbreak.

Organised by a joint committee of trade unions, including the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), and Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), the protest was held to demand the immediate reopening of the mill, disbursal of long-pending salaries, and other benefits owed to the workers.

The demonstration concluded after the management assured the protesting employees that their concerns would be taken up with the NTC authorities.

M.T. Antony, secretary of the Trivandrum Textile Workers’ Union (CITU-affiliated), warned that if their demands are not addressed within the stipulated timeframe, the workers would begin farming on the mill’s unused land as a form of protest and survival strategy.
