Xaar’s High Viscosity Tech Elevates Kammann’s Printing Innovation

Xaar’s Ultra High Viscosity Technology is empowering Koenig & Bauer Kammann (Kammann) to pioneer its latest innovations, elevating quality, speed and sustainability for customers utilizing its K15 and K20 decorative print machine families.

With the integration of high viscosity fluids developed by global ink manufacturer Marabu, Kammann’s machines enable both new and existing customers to craft personalized embossed effects on glass bottles, plastic and metal containers, with a build height of up to 3mm. This advancement is fully compatible with existing machines, allowing for enhanced viscosity jetting and a significantly increased pigment load, resulting in richer colour vibrancy and precise detail capture with up to 50 per cent less ink.

Leveraging Xaar’s Nitrox printheads and its ultra-high viscosity and high laydown technologies, Marabu’s inks can now be jetted at higher temperatures, enhancing application ease and machine speed with jetting distances of up to 15mm. With colours no longer requiring pinning, substantial time savings in printing, as well as reductions in energy and material usage, are achieved. Overall, the adoption of these new Marabu inks enables production speeds to more than double, making inkjet print applications more viable across a wider range of decorative uses.

Matthias Graf, Managing Director of Kammann, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration’s outcomes: “This partnership isn’t just about advancing technology; it’s about reshaping the future of digital printing. Xaar’s ultra high viscosity technology and Nitrox printheads have empowered Marabu to develop inks that signify a true leap in innovation and sustainability, unlocking fresh possibilities for our decorative printing machines.”

“Through our joint technical expertise with Xaar and Marabu, we have successfully delivered higher quality, speed, and sustainability in decorative inkjet printing to both new and existing Kammann customers,” Graf added.

Karl Forbes, Group R&D Director at Xaar, commended the achievements of the collaborative effort: “Our collaboration with Kammann and Marabu exemplifies the potential realized when industry leaders unite. This breakthrough in Marabu’s ink technology, facilitated by Xaar’s high viscosity innovation and Kammann’s machine expertise, is poised to revolutionize the market by setting new standards for decorative digital inkjet printing.”
