Sateri Launches Commercial-Scale Viscose Fibre From Recycled Textile Waste

Sateri, the world’s largest producer of viscose and part of the Royal Golden Eagle (RGE) group, has achieved a significant milestone in circular textile innovation by launching viscose fibre production on a commercial scale using recycled textile waste.
Developed in partnership with Swedish forestry cooperative Södra, the new fibre is produced using a blend of dissolving pulp from post-consumer textile waste and certified cellulose pulp.
The company confirmed that the fibre is fully compatible with existing spinning technologies, making it a ready solution for integration into current manufacturing systems.
“Our ability to do so using a 35,000-tonne-per-annum commercial production line is a breakthrough,” said Allen Zhang, President of Sateri. “It means we are now ready and capable of scaling up production to respond to market demand.”
This development marks a significant step forward in the viscose industry’s transition toward circularity. Until now, most recycled textile innovations have primarily focused on polyester and cotton fibres.
The project builds on RGE Group’s commitment to advancing sustainable materials. In October last year, RGE announced a $200 million investment dedicated to the development of next-generation cellulosic fibres. In addition to Sateri, RGE’s diverse portfolio includes APRIL, Asia Symbol, Asia Agri, Apical, Bracell, APR, and Pacific Oil & Gas.
