Cotton Yarn Demand Weakens In South India

South India’s cotton yarn industry witnessed weaker demand this week as downstream buyers remained cautious, leading to price corrections in key markets.
In Tiruppur, cotton yarn prices declined by Rs. 3–5 per kg amid subdued demand. Spinners initially resisted price cuts, but stockists and traders eventually lowered offers as buyers showed little interest in stocking beyond immediate requirements.

In Mumbai, the market started the week with slightly better buying, supporting a few yarn counts, but momentum soon faded. Traders noted that demand may revive post-Ramadan with the resumption of weaving activities, as many Muslim workers are engaged in the sector. Prices largely held steady:
- 60 count carded warp: Rs. 1,550–1,580/5 kg
- 60 count carded weft: Rs. 1,435–1,460/5 kg

- 40/41 count carded warp: Rs. 272–276/kg
- 40/41 count combed warp: Rs. 294–307/kg
Meanwhile, in Gujarat, cotton prices firmed up as spinners stepped up purchases to build inventories ahead of the season’s close. Cotton was quoted at Rs. 62,700–63,200 per candy of 356 kg, up Rs. 200 from the previous session. Daily arrivals were estimated at 30,000 bales in Gujarat and around 1.15 lakh bales across India.
