Arvind, H&M Group And Deven Supercriticals Launch India’s First Supercritical CO₂ Dyeing Machine

Arvind Ltd, in collaboration with H&M Group and Indian innovation start-up Deven Supercriticals Pvt. Ltd., inaugurated India’s first supercritical CO₂ dyeing machine at Arvind’s Ahmedabad facility today.

The cutting-edge technology, patented globally under the SUPRAUNO® brand, uses supercritical carbon dioxide to dye fabrics, eliminating the need for traditional water-based processes. At commercial scale, this innovation achieves up to 76% water savings, approximately 67% energy savings, and a 90% reduction in chemical usage during the coloration stage, while drastically reducing effluent discharge.

This milestone represents a unique three-way partnership: Deven Supercriticals contributes pioneering Indian innovation, Arvind enables large-scale industrial deployment, and H&M Group supports the adoption of disruptive, sustainable solutions. The initiative demonstrates a first-of-its-kind approach to scaling innovation from lab to bulk production.

Speaking at the event, Punit Lalbhai, Vice Chairman of Arvind Ltd., said, “This inauguration represents a defining moment for the Indian textile industry. Hosting the world’s first commercial-scale SUPRAUNO machine reinforces our commitment to sustainable solutions and sets a benchmark globally. Innovation, scale and sustainability can, indeed, go hand in hand.”

Omang Narang, H&M Group’s Production Manager for India, added, “Electrification is essential for a fossil-free textile industry. Wet processing remains the most impactful stage in our value chain, and technologies that save water and energy make further electrification more feasible. We are proud that our support drives the entire industry forward.”

Dr. Swapneshu Baser, Founder of Deven Supercriticals Pvt. Ltd., said, “Seeing our patented SUPRAUNO technology implemented at commercial scale in India is immensely gratifying. This is not only a technological milestone but also a critical step in conserving water, energy and health for future generations. We thank Arvind and H&M Group for making this vision a reality.”

The initiative has received strong support from the Ministry of Textiles, aligning with the Government of India’s vision to build a sustainable, circular and globally competitive textile sector while showcasing Indian innovation at the forefront of global textile transformation.
