adidas Rolls Out Single Shoe Service To Advance Inclusive Retail Across Europe

adidas has introduced an innovative in-store Single Shoe Service across 22 European countries, allowing individuals with leg limb difference to purchase a single shoe at 50% of the full-pair price, marking a significant step toward inclusive retail in the global sportswear industry.

Launched in January, the initiative has been developed in close collaboration with the disability community to reflect real-life needs and experiences. Key partners in shaping the programme include ParalympicsGB and Harder Than You Think, the producers behind Rising Phoenix, a widely acclaimed documentary on the history of the Paralympic movement.

The service is available across all in-stock footwear at adidas-owned retail stores, including outlets, offering greater flexibility and affordability for consumers who require only one shoe. The move reflects a broader shift within the apparel and footwear sector toward accessibility-led product and retail innovation.

This initiative builds on adidas’ expanding inclusive design strategy, particularly in sportswear and apparel. The brand has recently developed adaptive basketball uniforms tailored for wheelchair athletes and implemented inclusive design principles across a majority of apparel used during the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Additionally, the company is preparing to launch adaptive running footwear designed in collaboration with individuals with Down’s Syndrome.

By integrating inclusivity into both product development and retail experience, adidas is reinforcing its commitment to making sport and its associated culture more accessible, setting a benchmark for the wider textile and clothing industry to follow.
