Techtextil 2026 Highlights Market-Ready Defence Textiles Amid Rising Demand
The growing focus on defence preparedness and advanced material innovation is set to take centre stage at Techtextil 2026, where industry players will showcase market-ready protective textile solutions aligned with evolving global requirements.
With EU defence spending reaching approximately €381 billion in 2025, demand for high-performance textiles is accelerating. The European Defence Fund’s 2026 Work Programme has identified smart and multifunctional textiles as a priority, reflecting the increasing role of advanced materials in defence applications.
Scheduled from April 21–24 in Frankfurt am Main, the event will feature over 1,500 exhibitors, with more than 10 per cent focusing on innovations in protective textiles. These include solutions designed for ballistic protection, flame resistance and enhanced durability, while also addressing comfort and ergonomic requirements.
As regulatory pressures such as PFAS restrictions intensify, manufacturers are increasingly developing alternative finishes that offer water, oil and dirt repellency without compromising environmental compliance.
The exhibition will bring together over 150 specialised exhibitors spanning the entire value chain—from fibre innovation to finished materials. Companies such as Lenzing Group will present inherently flame-retardant cellulose fibres, while Hyosung Advanced Materials will showcase high-performance synthetic yarns.
Running alongside, Texprocess will feature around 200 exhibitors, bridging the gap between material innovation and industrial-scale processing. Together, the events will host more than 1,700 exhibitors, offering a comprehensive view of textile manufacturing capabilities.
A key focus area will be industrial scalability, ensuring that innovations can be translated into reproducible, standards-compliant solutions at commercial volumes. The Performance Apparel Textiles segment will highlight real-world applications in protective clothing, supported by the newly introduced Textile Chemicals & Dyes segment, which connects chemical processes directly with textile performance.
Industry experts emphasise that the future of protective textiles lies not just in innovation, but in the ability to scale solutions reliably across applications. The Techtextil Forum will further explore these themes, featuring insights from global experts, including those from NASA, and addressing critical topics such as textile intelligence, resilience and rapid industrial adoption.
As defence and industrial requirements converge, Techtextil 2026 is set to underline a key shift in the sector from experimental innovation to scalable, market-ready textile solutions.
