Bangla Mills Impacted By Falsely Declared Imported Textiles

The Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) has raised the issue of false declaration of imports of yarns, fabric and dress materials, which is impacting sales of locally produced textiles.

In a letter addressed to the Customs Bond Commissionerate, BTMA President Mohammad Ali Khokon said, the textile industry is already reeling under challenges of foreign exchange availability and hike in fuel prices.

“Textile units are also not able to utilise their full production capacity, due to gas shortages, and now the unethical import of yarns, fabrics and dress materials has exacerbated the crisis,” he stated.

The BTMA President has asked the Commissionerate to intervene and stop imports of textiles shipped through false declarations.
